Compulsory education in Japan.
Duration of compulsory education in Japan is 9 years, from elementary
school to middle school. Children who reach the age of 6 years old by
April 1 of the year shall enter elementary school.
(1) Entry to elementary school and middle school.
- There are 57 municipal elementary schools and 20 municipal middle
schools in Tsu City.
- Although those who have foreign nationality are not obligated to
take compulsory education, they may enter these municipal schools.
Consultation would be available with the School Education Section
of the Board of Education. Please bring the certificate of alien registration
and a seal with you for consultation.
- Tuitions and textbooks are free of charge at municipal schools,
except fees for lunches, excursion and some educational materials.
- Please consult us if there is difficulty to enter school due
to economic reason, you may get some assistances.
(2) If you wish to have your children enter private schools, please
contact preferred private schools directly.
