Welcome to the Tsu City home page!

My name is Mr. Naohisa Matsuda, the first mayor of the new Tsu City. I will do my best to live up to the expectations of Tsu City residents.

The new Tsu City was inaugurated on January 1st, 2006, combining ten municipalities, an area of approximately 710 square kilometers, and a population of 290,000 people. An important aspect of my job is to foster unity among the residents of ten previously separate municipalities, so everyone feels a part of this new city. For this it's important to have a shared dream of our future, so I hope to hear your ideas on making a happier and healthier Tsu City.

Tsu City is endowed with sea, mountains, rivers and other natural features, many tourist attractions, as well as various kinds of industry, culture and other important assets, so we must make the most of this fortunate situation. To create a city with vitality it is important to promote established and developing industries, along with the development of lively shopping districts, sightseeing, and other areas including Tsu Nagisamachi. To create a safe city we must emphasize health and welfare, high quality education, crime and disaster preparation, and a clean environment. Other problems including the nationwide issue of declining birth rates must also be addressed.

Although the city's financial situation is extremely severe, the limited revenue must focus our efforts on effective projects, considering the city's priorities and with the goal of creating a more stable financial base for the future.

To foster our shared dream of Tsu City's future, the creation of a great city that is easy to live in, I hope our residents will converse together and begin a dialogue with the City Council. Together we must strive to create a beautiful prefectural capital with a harmonious environment that fosters a healthy and full lifestyle.
